Detailed Rhone River Cruise 11-day Itinerary

Day 1: Lyon

Welcome to Paris. Enjoy a welcome dinner and then depart from Paris with the beautiful city as your backdrop.

Day 2: Lyon > Tournus

Relax on board as you cruise down the Saône to Tournus. Perhaps you will sharpen your French cooking skills during a lesson in Scenic Culinaire.


Explore the Château de Cormatin, admire its golden rooms, its moats and ponds, as well as its perfectly maintained gardens. You can also join highly trained hunting dogs and their owners in a nearby picturesque village to find and taste French truffles. You can also visit the restaurant of the three Michelin star chef, Georges Blanc, for a cooking demonstration.

Day 3: Chalon-sur-Saône

Explore Beaune, especially by visiting the Hospices de Beaune. This former hospital is a prime example of traditional 15th-century Burgundian architecture and now houses a fascinating museum. You can also visit a local chateau and taste some of the renowned wines from this premier estate in the heart of the Burgundy region, or visit the Museum of Photography in the town where it was invented. The museum is home to over three million photographs and artifacts, which you'll have the opportunity to observe with your local guide.

Day 4: Tain l’Hermitage

Start your day with a stretching class on the Sun Deck, or simply enjoy a quiet morning taking in picturesque vistas of the river.


Enjoy a wine tasting at a local vineyard, or take a guided walking tour of the village of Tain l'Hermitage, including a tasting of Valrhona chocolates. You can also take a guided bike tour along the Rhône to neighboring villages.

Day 5: Avignon

Avignon was named most popular cruise destination and the best European river cruise destination of the year in 2019. 


Take a walking tour of the beautiful city of Avignon, including the entrance to the Palais des Papes and the famous Pont de Saint-Bénézet, also known as the Pont d'Avignon. You can also take an excursion to the Pont du Gard, a masterpiece of engineering dating from the mid-first century and designed to carry water to the city of Nimes, or paddle along the Gardon river under the spectacular Pont du Gard by kayak.

Live an unforgettable experience in the prestigious Palais des Papes. After the doors close to the general public, indulge in an exclusive dinner and classical concert in one of the grandiose halls.

Day 6: Avignon

Shop with a chef at a local food market and prepare for a storm in the Scénic Culinaire with your fresh ingredients. You can also visit the villages of the Luberon region, including Gordes and Sénanque Abbey, or taste the famous Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines in a Côtes du Rhône vineyard. If you are feeling more active, you can choose to visit one of the most beautiful villages in France, Roussillon, for a guided tour and visit to the Lavender Museum.

Day 7: Tarascon

Explore the artistic heritage of Arles, and visit the impressive Arles Arena, or stop in the pretty medieval hilltop village of Les Baux and visit the Carrières de Lumières, a former quarry which now houses an impressive art installation. You can also visit a charming family olive farm, followed by a cooking class where our host will reveal local recipes, or take an active walk in the Camargue National Park. This afternoon, you can enjoy the medieval charm of Tarascon. It's the perfect city for biking, so why not hop on an electric bike and cycle the paths along the Rhône, or just stay on board and take a painting class.

Day 8: Viviers

Enjoy a walking tour of Viviers. Admire the many monuments and architectural treasures of this beautiful city before attending an organ recital, or learn about the history of the French Resistance. Hear tales of heroism and daring missions as you explore the city.


Explore the Ardèche National Park, including the Musée de la Caverne du Pont-d'Arc, a replica of the collection of engravings, paintings and drawings found in the nearby Chauvet Cave, or visit the Bollene hydroelectric power station and dive into the world of renewable energies. Discover the hydroelectric power station, the wind farm and the two solar power plants located here. You can also head to the beautiful provincial town of Grignan for a guided tour and castle visit, before enjoying some free time to explore on your own.

Day 9: Lyon

Admire the panorama of the Rhône as you sail to the gastronomic heart of France, Lyon. Lyon will host the football matches of the Summer 2024 Olympic Games.


Tonight, admire the beauty of one of the city's largest Baroque buildings, the Trinity Chapel. Built in the 17th century, the interior is decadently clad in Carrera marble. As an exclusive experience with Scenic, join your fellow travelers for a breathtaking acapella choir performance in this wonderful setting.

Day 10: Lyon

Discover the historical significance of Lyon as you walk through its hidden secret passages dating back to the 4th century, and visit the Notre Dame Basilica for magnificent views of the city. You can also explore Lyon on foot and admire the famous sites along the waterways. You can also discover Lyon's rich heritage in silk production during a silk painting workshop, or walk the cobbled paths of the medieval town of Pérouges.


Tonight, enjoy one last treat when a local pastry chef comes on board with a selection of his best desserts for you to feast on.
