Paris Summer Games Events & Venues

32 Sports and 329 Competitions

The Summer Games set up 32 sports and 329 competitions. For the first time, breakdance was listed as a competition event, and three new sports, surfing, sports rock climbing and skateboarding, which were only included in 2020, were retained. Baseball, softball and karate will no longer be part of the Olympics.

The main games of the Olympic Games will be held in Paris, but its surrounding areas such as Bourget, Versailles and Nanterre also host some events. The Greater Paris area, including the Stade de France, will host football, track and field, gymnastics, aquatics and opening and closing ceremonies. The central area of Paris will host events such as basketball, boxing, tennis, weightlifting, rhythmic gymnastics and contact sports such as kickboxing. The Versailles region will host all equestrian events, modern pentathlon, golf, mountain biking, track cycling and BMX competitions. Other events such as canoeing and kayaking, sailing, surfing and some football matches will be held in the surrounding area.

L'Île-Saint-Denis will serve as the Olympic Village, while Le Bourget will serve as the Media Village, International Broadcasting Centre and Main Press Centre.

KEY VENUES OF THE PARIS SUMMER GAMES

Champ de Mars

Champ de Mars

Champ de Mars

If anyone is familiar with the Champ de Mars, it must be the Eiffel Tower on the Champ de Mars. The Eiffel Tower, also known as the "Paris Observatory," is a historic architectural masterpiece and the national symbol of France. Apart from the aura that the Eiffel Tower provides, the Champ de Mars itself is also highly significant. It is a symbol of peace. The center of the square is surrounded by a wall of glass, metal, and other materials. The wall is adorned with the words "peace" in 32 languages, and the 32 columns around it are also engraved with the same words. It is a reflection of the Olympic pursuit of peace. Both visions coincide.

Champ de Mars will host exciting events during the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, including triathlons, open-air swimming, and beach volleyball.

Les Invalides

Champ de Mars

Champ de Mars

Invalides in Paris symbolizes the honor and power of France. They were built during the most prosperous and powerful period of French history. There is a tall domed church of Saint Louis at the entrance to Les Invalides, where Napoleon I rests. In his will, Napoleon said, "I wish that my body lies by the banks of the Seine, among the French people I have loved so much." Today, the Les Invalides has been transformed into a cannon museum and a military history museum. France's presidents use it to welcome visiting foreign leaders or to hold state funerals.

Tennis, badminton, archery, and other sports will take place at the Paris Olympic Games in 2024 on the French holy ground.

Champs Elysees

Champ de Mars

The Grand Palais

There are many historical monuments along the "Royal Boulevard" connecting Place de la Concorde and Place Charles de Gaulle. There are also the large and small palaces, the Champs-Élysées Circus Theatre, and the Arc de Triomphe, which has been burning the "Fire of the Unknown Soldier" since 1923. The area is home to many theaters and cultural monuments. It has witnessed countless moments of glory in France. The Champs Elysees means "land of heaven," which is the afterlife paradise of the gods' favored heroes in Greek mythology. It is regularly flooded by two major events every year: the French National Day parade on July 14 and the sprint of the Tour de France.

The sprint competition on the road bicycle will also take place without any suspense at this Olympics.

The Grand Palais

The Stade de France

The Grand Palais

Les Invalides across the river and the Grand Palais were built for the 1900 World Exposition in Paris. After the World Expo, other buildings were demolished one by one, except for the magnificent and majestic Paris Grand Palais and the Eiffel Tower, which stand as symbols of France and Paris. It has been converted into an exhibition hall after having existed for more than 100 years. It houses the works of well-known antique collectors, decorators, and artists under a glass dome. Here was held the first international antique biennale of a modern scale. In addition, there was an auction of fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent and a solo exhibition of Christian Boltanski. It will be ready for Olympic fencing and taekwondo competitions in 2024 after its final renovation.

Versailles Palace

The Stade de France

The Stade de France

In terms of French history, no building compares to the Palace of Versailles built by Louis XIV. The Palace of Versailles can be described as a monument to human civilization, with the highest level of art in architecture. There are 1.11 million square meters of space in the Palace of Versailles. The palace building has an area of 110,000 square meters. The palace garden has an area of 1 million square meters. Its shape is symmetrical, the outline is neat, solemn, and majestic, and the interior decoration is lavish or exquisite. As the site of the Olympic Games, the Palace of Versailles witnessed France's romantic and glorious history. Equestrian triathlons (jumping, dressage, and cross-country) will be held at the Palace of Versailles during the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

The Stade de France

The Stade de France

The Stade de France

"8 Minutes in Paris" takes place at the Stade de France, which is the largest stadium in France. It was built for the 1998 World Cup, and it is a pilgrimage site for fans of the French national football team. France won the World Cup in 1998 and the Six Nations Rugby Championship in 1999 at the Stade de France, which was designed in collaboration with four great architects. It can hold 80,000 spectators and costs about 280 million euros. That made it the most expensive stadium in the world at the time. Since its completion, the stadium has always been the home of the French national football team. The French stadium will host aethletics and rugby events during the Olympics in a brand new look.

France's Place de la Concorde is one of the most famous squares and it is situated on the north bank of the Seine. There is an Egyptian obelisk in the center of the octagonal square, which Charles V was given by the governor of Egypt. Sculpted from a single piece of pink granite, the obelisk is full of Egyptian hieroglyphs. Around the square are eight goddess statues symbolizing the major cities of France and implying the unity of France. From the Tuileries Garden, one can see the dancing of Chiba and the waves of the Seine. Place de la Concorde will host some outdoor sports competitions during the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Tahiti-Teahupu Beach

The 2024 Olympic surfing competition will be held at the famous attraction of Tahiti-Teahupu Beach (Teahupoo). The Islands of Tahiti is an overseas territory of France, with more than 15,700 kilometers from Paris. This arrangement will refresh the longest distance between the two venues in the history of the Olympic Games. The Tahiti Islands is one of the birthplaces of surfing. It is like spring in all seasons and rich in products. It is called "the place closest to paradise."

The concept of the Paris Olympic Organizing Committee is to promote and protect the unique natural environment of this island. It also considers the needs of local community residents and leaving an Olympic heritage for the local area. With waves and waves on this small island, we still seem to feel the brave legend of the early surfers.
